Augustine Tabbed Mid-Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Year; Six Cougars Join All-Region Squad

Ewing, N.J. (5/23/07) - Senior Joe Augustine (Highland Park, N.J.) has been tabbed the NCAA Division III ABCA Mid-Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Year as announced on Wednesday, May 23^rd.  He joins six Cougars on the three-team squad.

Seniors Dan Zeffiro (Old Bridge, N.J.) and Perry Schatzow (Ocean Twp., N.J.) join Augustine as first team members.  Juniors Derek Gianakas (Edison, N.J.), Maikel De La Rosa (Newark, N.J.) and Dan Mattonelli (Hamilton, N.J.) each were named to the second team while sophomore Brandon Aich (Sayreville, N.J.) was tabbed to the third team.

Augustine, also named the NJAC and NJCBA Pitcher of the Year, currently boasts an 8-2 record, 2.33 ERA, 92 strikeouts as well as five complete games.  Zeffiro, who has 20 complete games in 35 career starts, has an 8-1 record, 1.91 ERA and 6 complete games this season.  Schatzow, a first-team NJAC and NJCBA member, has a team-high 14 doubles as well as a .335 batting average to go along with 47 runs scored.

Gianakas, a first-team NJAC member, was named second-team utility player with a .339 batting average, five homeruns as well as 23 stolen bases.  De La Rosa, the team-leader in stolen bases with 29, also leads the team with 53 runs scored.  Mattonelli, who was also named to the Mid-Atlantic Regional All-Tournament squad, leads the team with 44 RBI.

Aich currently has a 3-1 record with 3 saves in 14 relief appearances this season.  With a 1.41 ERA, Aich also has 29 strikeouts.
