Gianakas Selected Player of the Week

Pitman, N.J. (4/7/08) - Senior outfielder Derek Gianakas (Edison, N.J.) has been selected as the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Player of the Week, Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Player of the Week as well as the New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association (NJCBA) Player of the Week as announced on Monday and Tuesday.

Gianakas earns NJAC Player of the Week honors for the second consecutive week after hitting .562 (9-for-16) with two doubles, one triple, three homeruns, seven RBI, and six runs scored in a 3-1 week of NJAC play for the Cougars.

He produced multiple-hit games in three contests including a 3-for-5 performance with a triple, two RBI, and one run scored in Kean's 12-8 league win over William Paterson. In a NJAC road doubleheader at Richard Stockton, he first went 4-for-5 with a double, two homeruns, four RBI, and three runs scored in a game one.  He wrapped up the week by going 2-for-4 with a double, a homerun, one RBI and two runs scored in the Cougars' 12-9 game two win.

Gianakas currently leads the NJAC in slugging percentage (.918), runs scored (35), RBI (37), home runs (11) and total bases (90).
