Gianakas Tabbed 2nd Team ESPN Academic All-District

Union, N.J. (5/11/08) - Senior outfielder Derek Gianakas (Edison, N.J.) was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District II second-team, as announced by College Sports Information Directors of America on Friday afternoon.

On the field, Gianakas is leaving his mark in the KU record books as he is currently second all-time in stolen bases (54), third in RBI (128), fourth in runs scored (140) and hits (174) and fifth in homeruns (21) and walks (73).

This season he was recently named the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Player of the Year after batting .400 against NJAC pitching and posting league-best totals in slugging percentage (.917); runs scored (24); home runs (7); and total bases (55).
