Gregory Named Region Player of the Year; Five Cougars Honored
Ewing, N.J. (5/25/11) – Senior Ken Gregory was recently named the NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Region Player of the Year joining juniors Lee Cavico and Mike Russo as first-team honorees as five total Cougars were honored this week.
Also selected include pitchers Kevin Herget and
Chris Cirlincione who were tabbed as second and
third team members respectively.
Gregory has had a tremendous year at the plate as he currently is batting .410 with a team-high 80 hits, 22 doubles, 11 homeruns and 54 RBI after playing and starting every game this season. Gregory was also named a first team member of the New Jersey Athletic Conference team as well as the New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Coaches Association Division II/III Player of the Year.
Cavico was tabbed as a first-team member after recently being named first team All-NJAC, first team All-NJCBA as well as the NJAC Player of the Year and Most Outstanding Player at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament. Cavico currently leads the team with 47 runs scored while he is second in batting average (.342), doubles (14), homeruns (8), and RBI (46).
Russo was also selected to the first team after recording a 10-1
record for the Cougars this season. Russo, who was also
selected as the NJAC and NJCBA Pitcher of the Year, now holds the
single-season standard for wins in a season. Opponents are
batting just .184 as he has recorded a 1.43 ERA.
Herget earns second team honors after recording a perfect 7-0 record with two saves and three complete games this season. Herget has also struck out 73 while tossing a team-high 82 and a third innings.
Cirlincione was tabbed to the third team after recording a 7-1 record, including the win in the championship game of the regional tournament last week. In 15 appearances, Cirlincione has just a 1.09 ERA, while also recording a save this spring.
