Cavico, Russo Earn ECAC Yearly Awards

Centerville, Mass. (8/3/11) – The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) released the spring awards for baseball this morning and Kean’s Lee Cavico and Mike Russo earned top honors as Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively.  In addition, senior Ken Gregory was named a first-team all-star.

Cavico finished the season by leading the Cougars with 48 runs scored and ranked second on the team in batting average (.356), hits (68), homeruns (9) and RBI (48).  He was also named the NJAC Player of the Year as well as a first-team all region selection.  He was honored as a member of the World Series All-Tournament team and earned Most Outstanding Player honors at the Mid-Atlantic Regional.

Russo picked up second-team All-American honors in addition to NJAC and NJCBA Pitcher of the Year honors.  This season he set a new single season record at Kean with 10 wins.  

Gregory earned second-team All-American honors to close out his two-year career for the Cougars.  The only player to start all 53 games in 2011, Gregory finished in the top five in eight different single-season and career records, including second with a .411 career batting average.   In 2011 he led the team with a .399 batting average (81 hits), 11 homeruns and 54 RBI.
