Union, N.J. (1/3/12) – Collegiate Baseball recently announced its preseason rankings and the Kean University baseball team is tabbed as the #3 team nationally in Division III.
This is the highest ranking the Cougars have been slated to start off the season, tying the #3 ranking they received prior to the 2008 season. Kean captured the NCAA Division III National Championship in 2007.
The 2012 season will return to the basics that have helped Kean had such success in the past: pitching, speed and defense. The pitching rotation returns five starters (including one from injury) that combined for 29 wins last season while adding relievers that accounted for six wins and seven saves. The speed/small ball game returns as senior Vinny Galya will lead the way after swiping 33 last season. Ioviero expects defense to be a catalyst for Kean as the Cougars have produced five gold glove winners since the 2007 season.
