Newark, N.J. (4/20/17) – Josh Cote broke a one-all deadlock in the seventh with a three run homer to give Rutgers-Newark a 4-1 victory over the Kean University baseball team in NJAC action on Thursday.
In the deciding seventh, with two outs Ryan Zucker reached on a walk and Justin Marks followed with a single. Cote then delivered with the Scarlet Raiders second homerun of the day, this time a three run shot for what would be the win.
Newark got on the board first in the second as Ross Halkias hit a solo shot. Kean (20-12, 6-5 NJAC) tied things up in the top of the fourth as Nick Polizzano hit a ground-rule double with two outs. Steve Santigate found the hole and recorded an RBI single to knot the game at one-all.
Tyler Hopman suffered the loss in the complete game effort. He (5-3) allowed two walks and struck out seven.
The two teams will be back in action on Friday at Jim Hynes Stadium at 3:30 p.m.
