Union, N.J. (2/25/18) – The Gwynedd Mercy University baseball team used a seven run third inning to shut down Kean University by the final of 8-0 on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action.
In the deciding third frame the Griffins (1-0) loaded the bases with no outs with two singles and a hit-by-pitch. Dave Tatoian cleared the bases with a double for a quick 3-0 lead. A two RBI double from Shaughn Wright later in the inning made it 6-0 and Jason Mulvey rounded out the scoring with an RBI single after the Griffins batted around.
The Cougars had opportunities to score despite only getting two hits on the day, but stranded 12 runners in the shutout.
Gino Tripodi picked up the win. He tossed three innings of relief allowing three walks and one hit with three strikeouts.
Ryan Keen paced the offense with a 4-for-5 day, falling a homerun shy of the cycle. He scored twice. Wright recorded three RBI as the Griffins collected 10 hits on the day.
Kean returns to action on Monday, facing SUNY Old Westbury in a rescheduled matchup.
