Union, N.J. (2/28/18) – The Kean University and Moravian College baseball teams combined for 23 hits, including six extra base hits, but the Greyhounds used an early four run frame to push to a 7-4 win on Wednesday.
Chase Rogers led the Greyhounds (3-1) with a 3-for-5 day, two runs scored and a double. Connor DeForge provided two hits and two RBI for Kean (4-3).
Moravian pushed to a lead they would not relinquish in their first at-bat. With one out, Ian Csencsits singled up the middle and Austin Markowski followed with a walk to put two runners aboard. Evan Kulig got the scoring started with an RBI double and would later score with Markowski on a passed ball and an errant throw by the Cougars. Later in the inning Mike Mittl registered an RBI double of his own for the quick 4-0 lead.
The Cougars had an opportunity early with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the same inning, but failed to capitalize on the opportunity.
Trailing 5-0, Kean chipped away with a single run in the second and two more in the third. Zach Joe and DeForge recorded RBI hits to inch Kean closer, 5-3.
The Greyhounds added insurance with a single run in the fourth as Rogers scampered home on a wild pitch and with a single run in the sixth on an RBI single from Carmine Palummo.
Nicholas Mazzella (2-0) tossed two innings of relief to earn the win. He allowed just one hit along the way. Rhett Jacoby earned a two inning save allowing one walk while fanning two.
Kean returns to action on Saturday when they host Susquehanna University at 11 a.m.
