Kean Places Five on D3football.com East Region Squads

UNION, N.J. (12/11/09) - Seniors Alex Cade (Galloway, N.J.) and Shabazz Green (Summit, N.J.) both earned D3football.com East Region first-team honors, highlighting five Cougar selections to the regional all-star squads after the Kean University football team tied the school record for wins in a season.

Senior Jared Chunn (Tinton Falls, N.J.) and sophomore Jamahl Williams (Passaic, N.J.) were second-team selections, while junior Chris Lauda (Staten Island, N.Y.) garnered third-team accolades.

Cade (pictured left) led the Cougars with 465 receiving yards and was second with 31 receptions, while tying for team-high honors with four touchdown receptions.  A two-time New Jersey Athletic Conference selection at tight end, including first-team honors in 2009, Cade had a career-high 126 yards in the Cougars win over Western Connecticut State University.

A two-year starter on an offensive line that has led the NJAC in fewest sacks allowed in each of the last two seasons, Green (pictured left) was also a NJAC first-team all-star and was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic District 2 second-team.    As a team, the Cougars only allowed six sacks in 2009 and 11 sacks over the last two years (22 games), while also blocking for the two-time NJAC Offensive Player of the Year in Chunn.

Chunn bumps up from the third-team honors earned as a junior, as he led the conference in rushing and became the first player in school history to eclipse 1,000 rushing yards in two different seasons.  After a slow start to 2009, Chunn rushed for at least 100 yards in six of the final eight games of the year, finishing with 1,189 yards and nine touchdowns.  A four-year all-NJAC selections, Chunn (pictured right) finished his career with 3,597 yards to rank second in school history, while his 29 career rushing touchdowns and 4,188 career all-purpose yards are program bests.

Williams led the team and was tied for first in the NJAC with five interceptions.  The team-leader with 66 total tackles, the safety also had 3.0 tackles for a 12-yard loss and two sacks for a loss of 10 yards.  A two-time all-NJAC honoree, Williams made a season-high 13 tackles and one interception in the season opener against Middle Atlantic Conference Champion Delaware Valley College.

A three-year starter at cornerback, Lauda led the team and was second in the conference in passes defended (19), as he posted a team-high 15 pass break-ups and added four interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown.  A three-time all-NJAC pick, Lauda has 11 career interceptions, with four returned for a touchdown.

The Cougars capped off one of its best season in school history with the program's third-ever Eastern College Athletic Conference Bowl Championship, as Kean captured its second ECAC Southeast Bowl Championship in the last four years.
