Jackson Named Team Stars and Stripes Captain for Tazon Bowl

MONTERREY, Mexico (12/18/09) - Senior Darryl Jackson (Red Bank, N.J.) has been selected a team captain for Team Stars and Stripes for the 2009 Tazon de Estrellas (Tazon Bowl) on Saturday, December 19.

The captains were chosen by the 52 Division III players themselves based on performances and leadership shown during the team's time in Mexico.  Jackson joins defensive end Marcus Ball from the University of Wisconsin-Stout as the defensive captains, while wide receiver Riley Curry (Trinity University) and quarterback Kyle Paulson (University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire) were named offensive captains.

Team Stars and Stripes will face the 70-man Monterrey Tec All-Stars on Saturday at Tec de Monterrey Campus Estado de Mexico on Saturday at 1 p.m., Eastern Time.

A Spanish-language broadcast will be available from the Tec de Monterrey Campus Estado de Mexico through technology developed and made available by Cambridge, Massachusetts-based YouCastr and will provide all the action to a Global American football audience for a viewing fee of $5.  Fans can access the game through the home page of www.GlobalFootball.com.

This is the first Tazon de Estrellas, but a NCAA Division III all-star team has faced a Mexican all-star team on 11 previous occasions in the Aztec Bowl from 1997 to 2007, with the US team leading the series 10-1.

A three-time NJAC all-star, Jackson anchored a Cougar defensive unit that allowed just 916 yards rushing all season to set a new school record for fewest rushing yards allowed.  A first-team New Jersey Athletic Conference all-star, Jackson was a three-year starter at nose tackle and played in every game throughout his career.  Jackson was also selected to play in the East Coast Bowl last month.
