Kean Football Volunteers at Community FoodBank
HILLSIDE, N.J. (3/5/12) – The Kean University football team recently volunteered on a pair of Fridays at The Community FoodBank of New Jersey, as a total of 36 members of the program assisted at the distribution center.
The 32 student-athletes and four members of the coaching staff split a pair of Fridays in February, assisting in preparing and packaging boxes of essentials for the elderly and in organizing the "Tools for School" section.
The Cougars have volunteered at the FoodBank in each of Head Coach Dan Garrett's six seasons at the helm of the program.
The FoodBank distributes over 37 million pounds of food and groceries a year, ultimately serving 1,500 non-profit programs including 436 programs served by its Partner Distribution Organizations (PDOs). Through their combined efforts, they assist 900,000 low-income people in 18 of New Jersey's 21 counties.
