Football Participates in Read Across America at Local School
UNION, N.J. (3/9/12) - For the ninth straight year, the Kean University football team participated in the National Education Association's Read Across America Day in celebration of beloved children's author Dr. Seuss' birthday.
Under the sixth-year Head Coach Dan Garrett, the Cougar football team traveled to Wayside Elementary School of Ocean Township School District on Friday, March 2, as the 18 student-athletes and three members of the coaching staff visited a total of 26 classrooms to read books by Dr. Seuss and discuss the importance of reading to the pre-K through fourth grade students.
NEA launched the Read Across America program in 1997. The nationwide reading celebration takes place each year on or near March 2, the birthday of beloved children's author Dr. Seuss, who epitomizes a love of learning. Dr. Seuss's use of rhyme makes his books an effective tool for teaching young children the basic skills they need to be successful.
