Denehy Named Capital One Academic First-Team All-American
Towson, Md. (12/6/11) –Junior wide receiver T.J. Denehy has been selected as a first-team member of the 2011 Capital One Academic All-America® Division III Football Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Denehy becomes the first player in program history to earn Academic All-American honors.
A Physical Education major with a 3.88 G.P.A., Denehy helped Kean post a 10-2 record and reach the second round of the NCAA Division III playoffs. He led the team with 60 receptions for 793 yards and five touchdowns. Denehy also handled the punt return duties finishing with 27 returns for 209 yards. He is the program's career leader in punt returns with 68 in three seasons.
Denehy is a member of Chi Alpha Sigma, the National College Athlete Honor Society, and has also been inducted into Kappa Delta Pi, Lambda Alpha Sigma and Phi Kappa Phi honor societies.
Off campus, Denehy has been actively involved in numerous community service initiative with the football program and the department, including Community FoodBank of NJ, Read Across America, Friends of Jaclyn, Beach Sweeps and Special Olympics.
He is currently the president of both the Kean University and New Jersey Athletic Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committees.
