Four Cougars Earn D3football.com All-East Region Honors
Minneapolis, Minn. (12/7/11) – The Kean University football team placed four student-athletes on this year's D3football.com All-East Region team as announced this week.
Seniors Ray Wegrzynek and Bekim Bujari were named second-team members on defense while senior Dave Vermeuel was awarded third-team honors on offense. Senior Jamahl Williams rounded out the selections as a third-team member on defense.
Wegrzynek, a first-team NJAC selection, finished with 50 total tackles including seven for a loss while adding two pass breakups and one quarterback hurry. In addition he recorded a blocked kick, a forced fumble and recovered three fumbles.
Bujari, a first-team NJAC pick, led the defense with 115 total tackles including a team-high nine for a loss. He also registered one interception with five pass breakups. Bujari forced two fumbles, recovered one and blocked two kicks this season.
Vermeuel, a first-team conference selection, helped anchor an offensive line that only allowed seven sacks this season, as the Cougars were ranked in the top 10 in the nation in this category for all of this season.
Williams, who earned second-team all-region recognition a year ago, finished with 53 total tackles, including 39 solo stops. He recorded five pass breakups as well as recovering three fumbles. Williams also stamped his name in the program record books as he registered three interceptions for 88 yards this season. For his career, Williams holds the new program standard of 18 for his career.
