Union, N.J. (9/4/11) – Senior Olivia Triano scored the game-winner in overtime as the Kean University field hockey team picked up their first win of the young 2011 season by the final of 3-2 over Roanoke College Sunday morning.
Triano took the pass from sophomore Korri Thompson and pushed across her second goal of the afternoon to give Kean (1-1) the win just under two minutes into the overtime period.
Triano scored the game's first goal at the 20:39 mark as she scored on a penalty corner opportunity served into the circle by sophomore Stephanie Soares. Roanoke (0-3) tied things up in the first half off a goal from freshman Mariel Hunt, assisted by junior Julienne Brown.
Both teams would trade goals in the second half as it was Thompson who scored her first goal of the afternoon off an assist from Triano in the 62nd minute. But the Maroons quickly tied things up as senior Lee Sheldon scored three minutes later.
Sophomore Erin Langan recorded two saves for the Cougars while senior Cristina Scichilone tallied 10 for Roanoke in the loss.
The Cougars outshot the Maroons, 32-5 while holding a 23-3 advantage in penalty corners.
Kean returns to action on Saturday, September 10th when they travel to Maine to take on St. Joseph's College.
