Krista LaMaina Posts Another Hat Trick as Field Hockey Dominates DeSales

UNION, N.J. (9/15/15) – Sophomore forward Krista LaMaina scored a natural hat trick to continue her torrid scoring streak in the Kean University field hockey team's 4-0 victory over DeSales University on Tuesday. Chelsea Mann assisted on all three of LaMaina's goals.

The Cougars have not allowed a shot in its last three games, a streak lasting 214 minutes. Kean has also shut out its last four opponents, thanks to the back line of Katie-Lynne Lussier, Suzanne Grochowski, Shauna LaMaina and Courtney Richard. Katie DiCarlo earned another shutout in goal for the Cougars.

Krista LaMaina (pictured left) has scored eight goals in the past three games and has 12 on the year.

Less than one minute into the evening, Kean earned a penalty corner. Krista LaMaina inserted the ball from the goal line, and the ball made its way to Marissa Robinson at the top of the circle. She unleashed a hard shot that hit some sticks in front and wound up sitting near the goal line. Raykena Brown outmuscled a DeSales defender to shove the ball into the goal for the score.

Though Kean dominated the shot count 12-0 in the opening half, it was another 30 minutes before the Cougars were able to score again. This time, Mann worked the ball in deep near the Bulldog cage. After her initial volley was blocked down, the ball was once again sitting there for a Cougar to pounce on. LaMaina was the beneficiary this time, as she continued her hot streak with a goal in her third-straight game.

In the second half, Mann and LaMaina hooked up twice more on very similar plays just two minutes apart. On both, Mann fed a pass into the center from the right side and LaMaina wound up and blasted a shot past the keeper.

Not surprisingly Kean also dominated the penalty corner column, 22-0. The final shot count was 25-0.

The Cougars will hit the road for two more weekend games at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and Castleton University. Kean will next take on RPI on Saturday at 1 p.m.
