Field Hockey Tripped Up by New Paltz

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. (10/27/15) – The Kean University field hockey team suffered its first shutout loss of the season on Tuesday against the State University of New York at New Paltz. The Hawks scored five minutes into the game and then with five minutes remaining to bookend their 2-0 win.

Despite the score, the Cougars held the advantage in shots on goal in the afternoon, 10-9. Marissa Robinson and Krista LaMaina combined for eight of those attempts on the New Paltz net.

Erin Landy and Rachel McLaughlin scored the goals for New Paltz, which improved its record to 13-4. Jessica Caruana assisted McLaughlin on the game-winner. Her shot was re-directed by McLaughlin into the Cougar cage at 4:28.

New Paltz was recieving votes in the NCAA poll and is the de facto No. 24 team in the nation.

Kean is now 14-5 on the year. The Cougars will wrap up the regular season with a game against national No. 2 The College of New Jersey at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
