MAHWAH, N.J. (10/4/16) – In their first time playing as a ranked squad this season, the No. 19 Kean University field hockey program had no problem taking down Ramapo College in NJAC action on Tuesday afternoon. Freshman Jenna Patrone had two goals and an assist to lead the Cougar attack.
Patrone got things started 9:09 into the game with an unassisted tally that was her third goal of the season. With 11 minutes to go in the opening period, Shauna LaMaina continued her run of hot play with an unassisted goal of her own to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead.
Though Kean dominated the stat sheet by outshooting the Roadrunners 26-4 and earning 14 penalty corners to Ramapo's four, but the game was still within reach until Krista LaMaina scored the team's third goal with an assist from Patrone at 53:55.
Patrone snuck the last ball into the cage with help from Teresa Carr (pictured left) just ahead of the final horn at 69:53, giving the freshman the first multi-goal game of her career.
Erin Smith earned the shutout by making two saves. She has been part of five blank slates this year.
Kean stayed perfect on the season (11-0, 2-0 NJAC). Ramapo sank to 2-5 and 0-1 in league play.
The Cougars will return home on Saturday for the program's Childhood Cancer Awareness game against SUNY Oneonta at 1 p.m.
