ANNAPOLIS, Md. (12/5/16) – Defender Shauna LaMaina of the Kean University field hockey team was named a Third-Team All-American by Synapse Sports the organization announced on Monday.
LaMiana adds the honor to her growing list of accolades which includes being named First-Team Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III All-South Atlantic Region, First-Team All-ECAC and First-Team All-NJAC this season.
She is the first Cougar to earn All-American recognition from Synapse since current assistant coach Oliva Lopes (née Triano) was so honored in 2011.
LaMaina is a defender and helped lead a stingy defense that recorded eight shutouts and allowed just over a goal per game. Yet she often worked her way into the Kean attack and also led the team in assists with 11, was 25th in the nation in that category and was second on the team in points with 37, all from the back line.
