Glassboro, N.J. (9/30/17) – The Kean University field hockey team used late heroics to push past Rowan University by the final of 3-2 on Saturday afternoon in the New Jersey Athletic Conference opener for both.
Trailing 2-0 with just four minutes to go, the #16 Cougars (11-0, 1-0 NJAC) erased the shutout with a penalty stroke goal from Shauna LaMaina. Kean forced overtime as Krista LaMaina found a loose ball in front of the cage that she pushed in to knot the game at two-all (just 21 seconds to go in regulation).
The Cougars did not have an opportunity to score in the first overtime period, but held Rowan in check as the Profs had three corner opportunities. In the decisive final period, Kayla Molnar deflected Shauna LaMaina's shot for the game-winner.
Rookie Megan Houser made two saves in overtime while playing 60:20 in today's action for her second win of the season.
Kean continues NJAC action on Tuesday when they host Ramapo College at 7:30 p.m.
