Field Hockey Bows Out of NCAA Tournament

Newport News, Va. (11/12/17) – The Kean University field hockey team bowed out of the NCAA Tournament with a 2-0 loss to Franklin and Marshall College on Sunday afternoon in the NCAA quarterfinals.

The Cougars end their record-breaking season with a 21-3 record.  F&M moves on to the Final Four and improves to 18-3.

The Diplomats scored back-to-back goals less than two minutes apart to break the scoreless deadlock in the second half.  Annie Horsley converted a penalty stroke goal at 57:02 and Emily Nagle tipped a feed from Erin Coverdale along the left post to give a late cushion.

After a defensive battle in the first half, the Cougars created several offensive chances in the second half with 10 shots (compared to three) and five penalty corner opportunities.  Ilianna Santangelo recorded six saves to propel the Diplomats to the win.
