Wright Named Kean Male Athlete of the Month

Lamar Wright (Galloway, N.J.) has been tabbed the male athlete of the month for December. A member of the men's basketball team, he currently leads the squad in both assists and steals. In seven games the Cougars compiled a 5-2 overall record, including their best start known in the Kean archives at 5-0.

Wright's best game of the season was the first one of December as Kean came from behind to defeat previously unbeaten Ramapo College, 97-87, at Harwood Arena. He scored a career high 32 points, including 20 in the final six minutes of action. After shooting 35.5% in the first half, the Cougars revived themselves and almost doubled their production by shooting 61.8% in the final 20 minutes. The Cougars slowly chipped away and finally broke through with just over six minutes in the game. Trailing by seven, he began his surge and pulled the Cougars within three on two consecutive layups. After Ramapo completed one-of-two at the free throw line to put them ahead by four, Wright drilled a three-pointer at 4:43 to pull Kean within one, 79-78. He put Kean ahead for good with another jumper at 3:40. Wright then tacked on 10 more points over the final three and a half minutes to seal the victory for Kean.

Wright also proved key in the Cougars win at Ithaca College on December 15th as he recorded a double-double 16 points and ten rebounds to go along with five assists and four steals. He also started off the overtime period with back-to-back buckets to put Kean ahead by four. Later in the stanza, with 15 seconds left, he hit a layup to pull the Cougars within one.

Overall in the month he tallied 96 points, 31 rebounds, 18 assists and 14 steals.
