Drennan Tabbed Head Men's Basketball Coach at
Kean
UNION, N.J. (7/26/06) - Sean Drennan has been named the new head
men's basketball coach at Kean University after a highly-successful
four-year tenure at Bergen Community College (BCC) in Paramus, N.J.
As the Cougars enter their 75th season of men's basketball at Kean,
Drennan becomes just 17th head coach in the program's history.
Over the past four seasons at BCC, Drennan compiled an 88-32 record
and captured three-straight Garden State Athletic Conference North
Championships at the two-year school. In addition, Drennan guided
the Bulldogs to a top-10 Division III ranking in the National
Junior College Athletic Association in each of the last three
seasons, while also breaking the school record for wins in both
2004 (25) and 2006 (28). Regarded as a solid recruiter, Drennan has
coached 11 all-region players in his four seasons, including a pair
of All-Americans in 2006.
"I am thrilled about the opportunity to take the step up from the
junior college level," said Drennan, who at 32 becomes the
second-youngest head coach in the NJAC, a year older than
Rutgers-Camden coach Brian Wischusen. "I will work hard to
carryover the success I had over the last four seasons as a head
coach."
Drennan returns to the NJAC after serving as an assistant coach at
Ramapo College for three seasons, from 1999 through 2002. During
his time with the Roadrunners, Drennan served as the primary
scouting coach while helping guide the team to the Eastern College
Athletic Conference Metro Region Championship in 2002.
"Having coached in the NJAC as an assistant, I know how competitive
the conference is each and every night," said Drennan. "Some of the
best players and most respected coaches in the country are in the
NJAC. Every game is a battle and it will be exciting to coach in
that type of atmosphere."
Kean Director of Athletics Glenn Hedden welcomed Drennan to his new
professional address at Harwood Arena. "We are confident, under
Sean's guidance, that the men's basketball program will become a
perennial power in the NJAC," said Hedden. "Sean has been around
basketball all his life, and has proven himself as a coach, both as
an assistant in the NJAC and as the head coach at Bergen Community
College."
A Health, Physical and Driver Education teacher at Snyder High
School in Jersey City, N.J., Drennan earned a Bachelor of Science
degree in physical and health education from Montclair State
University in 1997. He is currently attending the Management in
Education Leadership Program at New Jersey City University.
