Men’s Basketball Puts Up Fight vs. No. 24 NJCU

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (2/1/17) – The Kean University men's basketball team held a lead midway through the first half but could not maintain their momentum in a 78-60 setback at No. 24 New Jersey City University on Wednesday night.

Kean led as late as 12:15 in the first half, until the Gothic Knights' depth showed and NJCU slowly built up its lead over the remaining minutes. NJCU had three players in double figures and 10 total players score, led by Jalen Harris with 19.

The Cougars also had three players in double digits; Keenan Williams Jr. had 18 (on six made three-pointers, tying the season high for any Kean player), Justin Watson added 14 and Michael Summerer had 13. Kevin Grek kicked in another nine.

Watson (pictured left) led the team with seven rebounds and Summerer finished 6-for-9 from the floor. Williams led the team with five assists, though Summerer, Watson and Grek were all on his heels with four.

Kean is now 1-20 and 1-13 in the NJAC. Jersey City improved to 17-4 and 11-3 in the league.

The Cougars will return home on Saturday to host Rutgers-Camden in another NJAC matchup.
