Men's Basketball Pulls Past William Paterson

Wayne, N.J. (1/10/18) – The Kean University men's basketball team picked up their second straight win as they topped host William Paterson University by the final of 63-60.

Stephen Strom led all players with 19 points as the Cougars were a perfect 19-for-19 from the charity stripe on the night.

Tonight's game featured 10 ties and 10 lead changes but the Cougars were able to seal the win down the stretch, leading for the final seven minutes behind 10 points from the free throw line.

Carry Saturne put Kean up for good with 6:56 to go in the half and despite four treys from the Pioneers (8-7, 4-4 NJAC) in the final two minutes, the Cougars perfect shooting at the line was enough to win it.

With the score tied 14-14 at the 10:39 mark of the first half, the Pioneers scored 13 of the next 18 points to take a 25-19 lead late in the half. The lead would eventually stretch to 10 points (31-21), when Peter Martinez knocked down back-to-back three-pointers, but a late three by Adrian Baucum made it 33-28 at the halftime break.

Justin Watson recorded seven points and seven rebounds while Keenan Williams Jr. and Michael Summerer each had six points and six rebounds.  Summerer added five assists.

Kean stays on the road for an NJAC matchup with Stockton University on Saturday afternoon.
