Men’s Basketball Defeated by William Paterson in Season Finale

UNION, N.J. (2/14/18) - Micah Kerr and Michael Summerer combined for 37 points as the Kean University men's basketball team dropped their regular season finale to William Paterson University, 78-61 on Wednesday evening.

Richy Espinal finished with 22 points and 14 rebounds for the Pioneers who finish their regular season at 14-11 overall and 9-9 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. Adrian Baucum grabbed eight rebounds for the Cougars who finish their regular season at 7-18 overall and 5-13 in the NJAC.

William Paterson led for most of the first half as a 13-5 run over a 5:31 span put the Cougars into a deficit for the remainder of the opening stanza. Kean brought the Pioneers lead down to five on a Summerer jam with less than eight minutes to play. William Paterson answered by stretching the lead to as large as 10 with fewer than five minutes to play. The Cougars closed the half on an 8-5 run to trail 32-26 at halftime.  

In the second half, the Pioneers extended upon their halftime advantage with a 16-7 run that put the game just out of reach for Kean.

Dapo Badmos totaled 19 points and Sean Smith tallied 18 points in the victory for WPU. Summerer also grabbed eight boards in the loss for Kean.

William Paterson clinched the final seed in the NJAC Tournament, which begins on Saturday.
