UNION, N.J. (12/16/17)- Justin Watson and Adrian Baucum combined for 35 points and eight three pointers as the Kean University men's basketball team came away with a 90-74 non-conference victory over the College of Saint Elizabeth on Saturday afternoon.
Stephen Strom finished with 15 points and made three triples for the Cougars who improve to 3-6 overall. Tino Gonzalez totaled 21 points for the Eagles who fall to 2-8 overall.
Kean torched the nets in the opening half, knocking down 11 triples and shooting 45.8% from deep. Watson finished with 14 of his 18 points and knocked down all four of his triples in the first half. Strom chipped in with three triples and 13 first half points as Kean stretched their lead into double digits. The Cougars expanded their lead to as large as 29 on a Watson tip-in just before halftime.
Kean maintained the advantage for the rest of the contest, despite a combined 38 second half points from Gonzalez and Kar'ron Johnson. The Cougars extended their halftime lead to 33 points with 10:44 remaining. The Eagles strong second half shooting propelled a 30-10 run that cut the Kean lead to 84-71 with 1:31 to play. Despite the rally from CSE, back-to-back pairs of free throws from Jeff Cooper and Tommy Organ helped the Cougars hang on for the victory.
Today's victory marks the first time since 2014-15, that the Cougars have recorded back-to-back wins.
Head Coach Rob Kurzinsky and the Cougars will return to action on Friday, Dec. 22nd, hosting the Griffins of Gwynedd-Mercy University at 7:00 p.m.
