Men's Lacrosse Provides Clinic to New Jersey's
First Inner City Public School Lacrosse Team
NEWARK, N.J. ( 10/24/07) - The Kean University
men's lacrosse team recently provided a free clinic for East Side
High School and their junior varsity boy's lacrosse team at
Newark's Independence Park.
Under the direction of former Kean lacrosse player John Dudley,
the East Side High program is currently in its second year and is
expected to become a full varsity sport in 2009 and is the first
inner city public school lacrosse team.
A 1993 graduate, Dudley played alongside current Kean head coach
Shelley Sheiner in the early nineties.
"It's great to give back to the communities that surround our
campus," stated Sheiner. "Lacrosse is one of the fastest
growing sports in the United States, and it is incredible to see
schools, like East Side, start programs and generate such quick
success."
The clinic offered the novice player from East Side High the
chance to interact and work on basic lacrosse skills with members
of the Kean men's lacrosse team. The Cougars also brought
donated equipment for the East Side squad.
Junior captain Nick Miceli said "This is a
great opportunity for us as well as them. We are happy to
help new programs get off the ground, especially ones that are
coached by our lacrosse alumni. It's like one big extended
family."
