Men's Lacrosse Edges Western Connecticut, 6-4

Danbury, Conn. (3/3/12) – The Kean University men's lacrosse team improved to 3-0 on the season as they defeated Western Connecticut State University, 6-4, Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.

Western Connecticut started quickly with a goal from Ryan Foster in the game's third minute, and added a second tally midway through the first quarter.  Kean wasted little time getting one goal back when Collin Harrity (pictured left) took the ensuing faceoff and raced through the WCONN defense to score the Cougars' first goal, less than 10 seconds later.  Sophomore Richard Cheifitz scored both of his tallies to close out the first period, giving Kean a 3-2 lead.

Foster evened the score at 3-3 early in the second period, but two Kean goals (Sean Bobal and John Marcelli) put the Cougars in front 5-3 at intermission.

Late in the third quarter, Foster connected on a shot that cut the Kean lead to a single goal.

Junior Ryan Buerkle's goal in the first minute of the fourth quarter turned out to be the game's final marker, giving Kean a 6-4 win.

Junior Lane Zierten recorded nine saves to earn the win while senior Tyler Martone made six saves for the Colonials in the loss.

Kean returns to action on Wednesday when they host Drew University at 7 p.m.
