Union, N.J. (3/31/12) – Senior Nick Angrisani netted a game-high four goals to help the Kean University men's lacrosse team push past SUNY Maritime College, 7-5, Saturday evening in Skyline Conference action.
The teams battled in a defensive struggle for most of the contest as Kean (8-3, 2-0 Skyline) led by no more than two until late in the matchup. Maritime (2-9, 1-1 Skyline) tied things up for the third time early in the fourth quarter as sophomore Ed Fargo knotted the game at four-all with 13:48 to go. The Cougars responded one minute later as Angrisani fired his third goal of the day to take the lead for good. Later in the quarter he added insurance off an assist from junior Tom Clifford to put Kean ahead 6-4. With just over three minutes to go it was Clifford's turn off a pretty pass from sophomore John Marcelli to widen the gap to 7-4. Maritime took advantage of a man-up opportunity and netted their final goal of the day with 46 seconds to go.
Junior Lane Zierten recorded seven saves while junior Nick Barbuto tallied 11 in the loss.
Sophomore Zach Williams recorded seven groundballs while senior Rob Child (pictured left) forced four turnovers for the Cougars. Senior Steven Tonn registered seven groundballs and three caused turnovers while junior Matthew Messina tallied two goals for the Privateers.
Kean returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to the College of Mt. St. Vincent for Skyline action.
