UNION, N.J. (3/22/13) – Senior Brad Mills scored seven goals to propel the Kean University men's lacrosse team past DeSales University 18-9 on Friday night. The Cougars scored seven third quarter goals to furnish the victory.
DeSales played well to start. Jarrod Wiedow christened the matchup with the first tally for the Bulldogs, but Kean answered right back.
Tom Clifford, Mills and Richard Cheifitz either scored or assisted on the next three goals of the game; the trio had two points each as Kean took a 3-1 lead at 3:10, and Mills had secured a hat trick by 6:57 of the second quarter.
DeSales tied it up with five minutes to go in the second before Cheifitz put Kean ahead again with a goal at 4:31.
Mike Sheehan added a timely insurance goal just as the horn went off to signal the start of halftime, making the score 7-5 Cougars at the break.
The second half was scoreless for six minutes before Kean exploded for seven goals in the third quarter to blow open what had been a tight game. Sheehan netted the first before Sean Bobal (pictured left) scored three-straight in less than two minutes. Mills also had two in the third and Vincent D'Andraia added a tally from far out at 3:02.
The Cougars continued to rack up the points in the fourth and scored the game's final four goals on the way to extending their winning streak to six. Goaltenders Lane Zierten and Dino Vitale split the game between the pipes for Kean.
The Cougars will continue their season-long homestand on Wednesday when they host SUNY Potsdam at 6 p.m.
