Men's Lacrosse Powers Past Mt. Ida, 21-7

Union, N.J. (3/30/13) – The Kean University men's lacrosse team had three players score hat tricks on their way to powering past Mount Ida College, 21-7, Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.

After battling to a three-all tie after the first 15 minutes of action, it was the Cougars (8-1) taking over in the second stanza, starting a streak of 13 consecutive goals spanning into the fourth quarter.  Kean held a 10-4 at the break thanks to three first-half goals from junior Richard Cheifitz and two apiece from seniors Tom Clifford (pictured left) and Brad Mills and junior John Marcelli.

The Cougars tallied seven uncontested goals in the third quarter and added one more it begin the fourth before the Mustangs (3-6) broke the streak with an unassisted goal from senior Nick Yacuzzi with 10:16 to go in the contest.

Kean dominated the matchup outshooting the Mustangs 51-23 while collecting 55 groundballs (compared to 27) as 43 Cougars saw action.

Junior Dino Vitale earned the win as he appeared in just over 41 minutes of action, posting four saves.  Sophomore Scott Buchanan collected a team-high 10 groundballs while winning 16 faceoffs.

Offensively, Cheifitz, Mills and senior Sean Bobal all registered three goals and an assist in the win.  Yacuzzi finished with a team-high three goals for Mt. Ida.

Kean opens Skyline Conference play on Wednesday when they host Richard Stockton College at 7 p.m.
