Mills Scores Seven to Lead Men's Lax Over Drew

MADISON, N.J. (4/8/13) – The Kean University men's lacrosse team scored eight of the first nine goals of the game and held on to defeat Drew University 15-13 on Monday. Senior Brad Mills scored seven goals to lead all players on the night.

The Cougars raced out to a big advantage early on, Mills scored three goals in the first quarter alone, and Richard Cheifitz and Ryan Buerkle added one each for a 6-1 lead after the first 15 minutes.

John Marcelli and Sean Bobal (pictured left) expanded the Kean lead even more to start the second quarter, but Drew scored the next three and cut the gap down to four. Mills scored two more before the break and Drew added one so that the score was 10-5 at halftime.

In the second half, the Rangers desperately tried to claw their way back in the game; they outshot Kean 22-14 but could not catch the Cougars despite scoring the final three goals of the game.

Cheifitz finished with a hat trick, Bobal scored two – including the game-winner - and Marcelli and Matt Speciale added two huge scores for Kean.

Kean will close out their roadtrip with a journey to Skyline Conference rival Farmingdale State on Wednesday night.
