Men's Lacrosse Powers Past Mt. St. Vincent, 18-5
UNION, N.J. (4/20/13) - The Kean University Men's Lacrosse team used a seven goal first quarter to propel them to an 18-5 victory over the College of Mt. St. Vincent on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, Kean ties the program mark for wins in a season with 14. The Cougars also achieved 14 wins in the 2010, 2008 and 1993 seasons.
The Cougars (14-2, 5-1 Skyline) opened the scoring just 2:29 into the affair, as junior John Marcelli found the back of the cage, and the Cougars never looked back. Marcelli would add two more goals during the opening stanza. Senior Brad Mills recorded a hat trick in the first quarter of play. Mills and Marcelli would combine for seven goals during the 11 goal output over the first two quarters.
The second half was more of the same for the Cougars, as juniors Richard Cheifitz and Dan Brenner joined hat trick brigade as well. Brenner would finish with four goals, while Cheifitz also chipped in two assists to go along with his three goals. The Dolphins (5-11, 1-6 Skyline) used the man advantage to their favor, as Geermaine Ngaba and John Petito connected on man up goals.
Senior Lane Zierten earned win making one save in 34 minutes of action, while George Bogner, James O'Brien, and Garret VanDoren went the rest of the way for the Cougars, making five combined saves. Kyle Kalibat and Ben Gashi made 21 combined saves for the Dolphins.
The Cougars will host the opening round of Skyline Conference Tournament this Wednesday, April 24th as they take on Farmingdale State College.
