Men’s Lacrosse Powers Past Western Connecticut
UNION,N.J. (3/1/14) – Matt Speciale scored four goals, while three other teammates scored a pair as the Kean University Men's Lacrosse team defeated Western Connecticut State University, 14-3 on Saturday afternoon.
John Marcelli opened the scoring for the Cougars 2:42 into the opening stanza, and the Cougars never trailed in the contest. By the time the first quarter had ended, five different Cougars (2-0) tickled the twine, with Anthony Carpenter notching two assists in the opening period.
The Cougars scored two more goals in the second quarter, as Carpenter scored twice, and Speciale connecting to open up an 8-1 margin. Jake Pantani and Jon Thomas broke the shutout for the Colonials (0-1) as the teams headed into the break with the score at 8-2. The third quarter was no different, as Speciale racked up two more goals sandwiched between a score by Ryan Foster.
Ten different Cougars registered at least one point in the contest. Carpenter finished with two goals and three assists while Jeff Christiano finished with two goals and two assists. Dino Vitale, who had a number of impressive saves, finished the game with 13, and Garret VanDoren made one save in relief. Kevin Seery finished with 15 saves for the Colonials.
The Cougars return to action March 7th, as they travel to take on Plattsburgh St. at 7:30 p.m., and return home March 15th at 1 p.m. to battle Utica College.
