Men’s Lacrosse Shuts Out Maritime as Carpenter Scores Four

UNION, N.J. (4/2/14) – Kean University goalkeepers Dino Vitale, Garret VanDoren and Maxwell Fields (pictured left) combined to shutout SUNY Maritime College in a 20-0 men's lacrosse rout on Wednesday. It was the first Skyline Conference game of the year for the Cougars, who are now 10-1 and have won eight-straight.

The three goalies did not have it easy, as they combined to make nine saves on the night. Fields – who played the final 15 minutes – made the most stops with five. Vitale was only asked to make one as the Kean defense held the Privateers to a single first-half shot.

Anthony Carpenter scored four goals to lead Kean. Jeff Christiano notched his first career hat trick and Matt Speciale, Richard Cheifitz, John Marcelli, Vincent Ferraro and Matt Brodley all scored twice for the Cougars.

Speciale and Carpenter tied for the team lead with six points in the game. Other players to notch points included Anthony Perrotta, Neil Bortolus, Conor McAuley, Daniel Brenner, Mike Criscitello, John Marcelli and Ty Martin.

It was the largest margin of victory in a shutout in Kean lacrosse history.

Maritime sank to 4-7 on the year and is now 0-2 in the conference.

The Cougars will have a full week off before returning to Kean Alumni Stadium next Wednesday to host Farmingdale State College at 7 p.m.
