Union, N.J. (4/9/14) – The Kean University Men's Lacrosse team battled back from a 4-0 first quarter deficit to knock off Farmingdale State 13-9 in a Skyline Conference game on Wednesday evening.
The Rams (6-4, 2-1 Skyline) jumped out to an early 4-0 advantage, as Tyler Rifice scored twice in the opening stanza, and two other Rams pumped in markers during the first 15 minutes.
The Cougars answered back as Richard Cheifitz scored the first of his five goals on the evening, pulling the Cougars (11-1, 2-0 Skyline) within three. The Rams tallied another during the second period, but the Cougars roared back with the next five goals, culminating with Cheifitz recording the hat trick with 12:46 left in the third. After the Rams tied the game at six, the Cougars scored the next four, led by two goals from Anthony Perrotta.
The Rams would attempt to get closer, but John Marcelli (pictured left) recorded two pivotal goals during the fourth period, and Dino Vitale settled down and made several saves from close range to preserve the win for the Cougars.
Cheifitz led the Cougars with 10 shots, while Perrotta and Mike Criscitello led the way with six ground balls apiece. Vitale finished with seven saves. Thomas Fallon made four saves for the Rams in the losing effort.
Kean has now won nine-straight games and is a perfect 7-0 at home and 2-0 in the Skyline.
