Men’s Lax Rolls to Win and 15-2 Regular Season

NEWBURGH, N.Y. (4/26/14) – Senior Richard Cheifitz scored five goals and four other Cougars had hat tricks as the Kean University men's lacrosse team pounded out 23 goals en route to a regular season-closing Skyline Conference victory over Mount Saint Marty College on Saturday.

The Cougars will begin the postseason with a 15-2 record and as the No. 2 seed in the Skyline Conference playoffs with a 5-2 league record. The Knights will close down shop at 6-9 and 1-5 in the Skyline.

For the Cougars Vincent Ferraro, Matt Speciale, Anthony Carpenter and Matt Brodley (pictured left) all had three goals each. It was the first hat trick of the freshman Brodley's college career.

Kean jumped out to a 7-2 first-quarter lead and outscored the Knights in each period.

The Cougars registered nearly a shot a minute, helped by Jamar Thigpen who gave them possession after possession with eight groundballs and 12 faceoff wins. Ed Adams won an additional seven faceoffs for Kean.

Dino Vitale earned the win in the cage for the Cougars and Garret VanDoren and Maxwell Fields also saw time in the crease. Marc Zolchonock caused two turnovers to lead the team in that column.

Kean will host third seed Farmingdale State College in the semifinal round of the Skyline Conference Tournament on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. inside Kean Alumni Stadium. The winner will move on to Saturday's Skyline Championship Game. No. 1 seed Montclair State will square off against four seed Richard Stockton College in the other semifinal.
