UNION, N.J. (4/20/16) – The Kean University men's lacrosse team dropped a 14-7 Skyline Conference matchup with Montclair State University at Kean Alumni stadium on Wednesday night. Matt Speciale had a hat trick to highlight the contest for Kean.
Montclair scored just a minute into the matchup, but both teams were scoreless over the next 10 minutes of gametime. At 3:30 of the first quarter Brian Mills scored to tie it up with an assist by Anthony Carpenter.
The tie was short-lived, however, as Brett Mangan's initial shot was stopped but trickled over the goal line for a 2-1 MSU lead.
Montclair scored the opening two goals of the second quarter to stretch its lead to 4-1 at 8:37. Two minutes later, Speciale (pictured left) scored with the shot clock at 00 to give the Cougars a temporary shot of momentum.
The Red Hawks extended their lead throughout the second half, however, and outscored Kean 9-4 in that time to double up the Cougars on the scoreboard. Zach Schreck had four goals to lead all players in the game.
Montclair is now 7-6 and 3-0 in the Skyline. Kean moves to 9-5 overall and 2-2 in the league.
The Cougars will take on the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday in Skyline action with first faceoff set for 1 p.m.
