HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (4/18/18)- Jake Frankvoits totaled a career-high six goals as the Kean University men's lacrosse team extended their winning streak to eight games with a 9-7 victory over Centenary University on Wednesday afternoon.
Thomas Francy made nine saves for the Cougars who improve to 11-2 overall. Michael Muff tallied a hat-trick for the Cyclones who fall to 3-7 overall.
Frankovits scored three goals in the first half as Kean needed a Cole Blackley goal for the 4-3 advantage at intermission.
The Cougars extended their halftime lead to 7-3 at the 8:40 mark in the third quarter with two goals by Frankovits and one by Mike Snellen. Centenary closed the quarter with back-to-back goals and Kean held a 7-5 lead entering the fourth.
Frankvoits opened the fourth with a goal off an assist from Andrew Yenesel to propel Kean to the 8-5 lead. The Cyclones attempted to close the gap with back-to-back goals as Kean maintained an 8-7 advantage with under seven minutes to play.
Snellen answered with an insurance goal with less than a minute to play as the Cougars survived with the two-goal victory.
Connor Baucom went 13-for-19 on faceoffs with six groundballs, while Matt Palmieri totaled six groundballs and three caused turnovers. Matt Tanis finished with six groundballs and five caused turnovers, while Francy and Tyler Roberto scooped up four groundballs.
Head Coach Shelley Sheiner and the Cougars will return to action on Friday, Apr. 20th, hosting the Golden Eagles of St. Joseph's College from Long Island at 5:00 p.m.
