Late Goal Downs Men’s Lacrosse Against Farmingdale State

UNION, N.J. (4/25/18)- Tom Kelly scored two goals as the Kean University men's lacrosse team had their nine-game winning streak snapped with a 7-6 loss to Farmingdale State College on Wednesday evening.

Dylan Fitzgerald notched a hat-trick for the Rams who improve to 9-7 overall. Thomas Francy tied a season-high with 15 saves for the Cougars who fall to 12-3 overall.

After falling behind 2-0, four unanswered goals in the second quarter allowed Kean to take their first lead of the evening at 4-2. Andrew Yenesel, Kelly, Jake Frankovits and Tyler Roberto each tallied a goal during the second quarter run.  FSC responded with two unanswered, including a score just before halftime, to even the contest at 4-4 entering halftime.

Kean bookended the third quarter with scores by Jack Bushey and Kelly to keep everything even at 6-6 entering the fourth. In the fourth, the Rams eventually scored the game-winning when John Feiner connected with Fitzgerald to give Farmingdale State the 7-6 advantage. Despite their best efforts, the Cougars were held scoreless in the final period with Rams goalie Dan Wood making 10 of his 16 saves in the second half. Wood stopped a Frankovits shot with six seconds remaining to preserve the victory for the Rams.

Kelly added four groundballs, while Frankovits, Francy, Yenesel, Connor Baucom and Matt Palmieri all scooped up three groundballs.

Head Coach Shelley Sheiner and the Cougars will return to action in Galloway, N.J. on Saturday, Apr. 28th, against the Ospreys of Stockton University at 7:00 p.m.
