Trio of Cougars Named NJAC
All-Stars in Men's Soccer
PITMAN, N.J. (11/4/08) - Sophomore
Alfredo Oquendo (North Plainfield, N.J.) was
named a New Jersey Athletic Conference Second-Team All-Star
in men's soccer, one of three Kean University players to earn
post-season recognition as announced by the conference office on
Tuesday morning.
Also earning accoladers were senior Mark Wallis (New
Gretna, N.J.) and rookie Andres Berriel (Las
Piedras, Uruguay), who each earned a spot on the NJAC
Honorable Mention squad.
In NJAC games, Oquendo (pictured right) led the conference in
both saves (82) and saves per games (9.11), while also ranking
second in save percentage (963) in nine games. In 20
games overall this season, Oquendo finished
with 122 saves, the third most in single season history at Kean.
Oquendo stopped three-of-four penalty kicks this year, including
two in Kean's 2-1 double overtime victory over NJAC-rival
Rutgers-Newark.
Wallis (pictured left) and Berriel each led the team with four
goals apiece this year. A midfielder, Wallis scored two of
his goals in conference action. Berriel, who also had two
assists in conference action, led the team with 11 points as a
rookie.
Playing arguably one of the toughest schedules in the nation
with more than half the teams on the schedule ranked at one point
during the season, the Cougars finished 7-12-1 overall.
