Men's Soccer Shuts Down NYU,
2-0
Hillside, N.J. (9/9/09) - Junior Thiery Gustave
(Elizabeth, N.J.) scored the game-winner just over 10
minutes into the action as Kean University defeated visiting New
York University, 2-0, Wednesday afternoon at the East Campus Soccer
Complex.
Gustave (pictured right) took a shot that fired off the left
post and after recollecting the rebound bend the ball inside the
right side of the net for what would be the game winner at 10:30.
The Cougars (2-1-1) added insurance late in the match as
sophomore Erick Solis (Summit, N.J.) released a
hard shot off the keeper that was collected by freshman
Tiago Goetzke (Curitiba, Brazil) and shot right
back into the net for the final tally of the afternoon.
Junior Alfredo Oquendo (North Plainfield, N.J.)
recorded three saves in his second shutout of the season while
senior Marek Urbanski (Burlingame, Calif.) tallied nine
saves for NYU (1-2) in the loss.
Kean held an 18-11 advantage in shots while the Violets held a
slight 4-3 edge in corner attempts.
The Cougars return to action on Saturday, September
12th when they travel to Rutgers-Newark to take on
Medgar Evers College at 11 a.m. while NYU travels to take on R.P.I.
in the Manhattanville College Classic on Friday at 5 p.m.
