Union, N.J. (9/30/17) – The Kean University men's soccer team fell to Rowan University by the final of 6-1 on Saturday afternoon.
#20 Rowan (10-2, 4-0 NJAC) got the action started early in the first half as Ryan Logar sent a pass up field to Shane Doherty, who was making a run up the right side of the field. Doherty took one touch and then fired a shot past the keeper and into the left corner of the net for the 1-0 lead.
Minutes later, Matt Fahey sent a long pass up field towards Doherty. After a Cougar miscue, Doherty found the ball at his feet inside the box and tapped the ball into the open net for his second goal of the day and a 2-0 lead.
The Cougars answered with a goal of their own on a corner kick midway through the half. Alex Noriega sent the cross into the box. The Profs keeper punched the ball out of the scrum of players and to the feet of Russell Hoffer, who buried a shot to the back of the net.
The Profs went on to pad their lead with three more goals in the half from Zack Sakena, Alex Nicol, and Nick Schlageter to make the score 5-1 going into the break.
The second half remained scoreless until about one minute remaining on the clock. Sakena sent a pass across the front of the goal to Schlageter who finished the shot to make the final score 6-1.
The Cougars return to action on Saturday afternoon as they travel to William Paterson University for a 1 p.m. start.
