Union, N.J. (10/18/17) - The Kean University men's soccer team fell to #20 Drew University by a final of 3-1 on Wednesday night.
The Cougars got out to an early lead as sophomore Brandon Gomez ripped a shot to the back of the net from 25 yards out. The play started with a short pass off a corner kick on the far side of the field. Jorge Castro then sent a cross towards the scrum of players in the box. The ball was deflected down to the feet of Antoine Gbamou who sent the ball back to Gomez. Without taking a touch, Gomez sent a laser to the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. The goal allowed by the Rangers was just the 10th of the season.
The Rangers answered with a goal of their own on a header from sophomore Aidan Cserhat. Drew was set up with a free kick. Max Correa sent the cross into the center of the box. Cserhat's tall frame allowed him to get above the Cougar defenders and head the ball past the keeper to tie the game at one-all.
Both defenses held strong for the remainder of the half to keep the score tied going into the break.
Just five minutes into the second half, Drew jumped out to a 2-1 lead. After a few touches towards the box, Cole Bosch sent sent a pass to Alexi Velazquez who settled and fired a shot to the back of the net.
Later in the half, the Rangers added some insurance with a goal from Andy Imoh. After a cross from the left side of the field, Correa deflected the ball back towards the middle of the box to find Imoh. Imoh jumped in the air and took a leaping, one-time shot to make the score 3-1.
The loss puts the Cougars to 8-6-1 overall on the year.
The Cougars return to action on Saturday as they travel to The College of New Jersey to take on the Lions in an 11 a.m. start.
