EWING, N.J. (10/21/17)- Kamsi Udodi notched the game-winner in the 85th minute as the Kean University men's soccer team kept their playoff hopes alive with a 3-2 victory over TCNJ on Saturday morning.
Alex Noriega and Vinceroy Nelson each scored for the Cougars who improved to 9-6-1 overall and 4-4 in the NJAC. Nick Sample and Ryan Vazquez each scored a goal for the Lions who fall to 5-8-3 and 1-4-3 in the NJAC.
The Cougars trailed 1-0 entering the second half after Sample scored with a shot from 15 yards out in the 27th minute. KU would get on the scoreboard in the 66th minute when Noriega converted on a penalty kick goal to even the contest at 1-1. Kean earned the PK after a TCNJ defender was called for a foul during a slide tackle in the box. Noriega was elected to take the kick and scored low on the far post.
Kean took their first lead of the game at 2-1 when Nelson scored off an assist from Jorge Castro in the 70th minute. The Lions responded with a game-tying goal in the 76th minute, when Vazquez scored on a header to even the game at 2-2.
The Cougars scored the game-winner in dramatic fashion. The TCNJ keeper came out to play the ball and fell down after getting tangled with his own defender. Udodi controlled the ball and dribbled towards an open net. Udodi's first shot was knocked off the line, but the loose ball bounced back to the sophomore for the game-winner.
Danny Guillen finished with a match-high five shots, while Nelson tallied four. Derek Phells made four saves in the victory for Kean. Sample took four shots, while Michael Kayal made five saves in the loss for TCNJ
Head Coach Peter-John Falloon and the Cougars will return to action on Wednesday, Oct. 25th, hosting the Roadrunners of Ramapo College for Senior Night at 7:30 p.m
