Title: Assistant Coach

Former Major League Soccer coach Merlin Villagomez is with the Cougars for his second stint as an assistant coach.

Villagomez coached both the NY/NJ MetroStars and the LA Galaxy for six seasons, including a stint as the interim head coach of the MetroStars in 2002 and an Eastern Division title.

Villagomez played professionally in Ecuador for Filancard F.C. and Lug-San. He holds a USSF “A” Coaching License, is a certified strength and conditioning specialist by the International Sports Sciences Association and is a member of the Coaching Education Staff for New Jersey Youth Soccer.

He earned a BA in Physical Education at Kean in 2009 and was also educated at Manuel Fajardo University in Cuba and the University of Guayaquil in Ecuador. Villagomez is currently the President and Founder of the Merlin Soccer Club in Elizabeth, N.J.
