New York, N.Y. (2/26/12) – The Kean University men’s volleyball team fell to #7 Stevens Institute of Technology and Division II Pfeiffer University in the final day of competition at the Baruch Quad Invitational.
Stevens won in straight sets (25-21, 25-20, 25-15) as the Cougars
(11-3) played their third match in less than 24 hours. Kean
was led by Senior Christian Portera (pictured
left) who had eight kills and two assisted blocks along with
teammate Steve Vahalla who recorded nine kills and
one solo and one assisted block. Rookie Alex
Barnhard tallied 26 assists while freshman John
Cunningham added six kills, three digs and two assisted
blocks.
In the second match of the day, Division II Pfeiffer University defeated the Cougars in straight sets (2516, 25-14, 25-17). Cunningham collected 10 digs along with two assisted blocks while Portera and Vahalla combined for 12 kills. In total, Kean collected nine team blocks.
Kean returns to Skyline Conference action on Tuesday when they host Polytechnic Institute of NYU at 7:30 p.m.
