Springfield, Mass. (3/23/12) – The Kean University men’s volleyball team split in action at Springfield College on Friday topping #14 Baruch College, 3-2 and falling to host #3 Springfield, 3-0.
The Cougars, who earned their first ranking in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 15 Division III Poll this week with a #15 ranking, now stand with an 18-6 overall record.
Kean won an exciting competitive match against Baruch winning by
the final set scores of 22-25, 25-23, 22-25, 26-24, 17-15.
Rookie Kyle Farley (pictured left) nailed down the
match winner with a kill off an over pass in the fifth set.
Junior Steve Vahalla led the Cougars with 18 kills
while sophomore Tom Kemmerle recorded 22 digs in
the match. The Cougars recorded 17 total blocks while
registering 53 total kills.
The Cougars fell to host Springfield, 16-25, 14-25, 20-25 in their second match against a ranked team this afternoon. Kean was led by freshman John Cunningham who finished with five kills and four digs. Senior Christian Portera led the squad with seven kills.
Kean continues their tough schedule as they face Wentworth Institute of Technology and #4 Juniata College on Saturday.
